The Hot Rubberized Asphalt waterproofing systems are usually applied hot with a notched squeegee to a monolithic, solid deck of some type, but typically concrete. Some configurations have a reinforcing layer of felt material in between layers of hot rubberized asphalt. This roof is always covered with protection from the sun's ultraviolet lights. Then, insulation, drainage board, concrete or garden vegetative materials, sometimes pavers or photovoltaic panels are used for coverings.

Hot rubberized asphalt roofs can range in thickness from 120 mils to 215 mils thick. When selected, the multi-layer approach to a hot rubberized asphalt roof provides redundancy through a felt layer in between rubberized asphalt layers.
The hot rubberized asphalt is heated to a liquid consistency in a special hot rubberized asphalt melter using a double walled tank to indirectly heat the material. The material is also used as a waterproofing as well.
