With the Green Movement starting to 'harvest' the roofing real estate for gardens, relflective, ballasted and photovolotaic or wind systems on top, the roof has become a critical part of the top of the building. If the Photovoltaic or Solar Thermal panels payback is 25 years, the roof better last at least that long, or more!
To help the Chicago Design, Building Owners and Managers, and Code communities need to understand how the roof works, and new codes and standards for the rooftop.
Chicagoland Roofing Council Contractors and Local 11 have worked together to educate the specifiers, buidling and fire code officials about the importance of a good roof. CRC had an excellent year in promoting the Professional Roofing and Waterproofing Contractor Firms employing United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers, Local No. 11 workers. Listed below are some accomplishments:
Trade Shows - Chicagoland Roofing Council Members and Local 11 displayed at BUILDEX Chicago, the Association of Licensed Architects and Construction Specifications Institute Shows, Building Green Chicago, BISNOW, GREENBUILD, and more. Our aim is to connect Specifiers, Building Owners and Managers and Building Officials with information from the field to help bring a better roof.
Education - The Chicagoland Roofing Council and Local 11 presented education sessions on buildng and fire code requirements, reflective, ballasted, garden, wind and photovoltaic rooftop systems, and more to architects, specifiers, buildng officials, fire marshals. Contact info@chicagoroofing.org to schedule your session.
